CASPIA Analytical Center International Relations Analyst and Expert Nargiz Mammadova provided expert commentary to the Israeli publication The Jerusalem Post on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy and the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Israel.

In her comments, Mammadova highlighted Azerbaijan’s balanced and pragmatic approach to foreign policy as one of the country’s distinctive characteristics.

According to Mammadova, Azerbaijan does not seek to rely on a single dominant power or build its foreign policy around one geopolitical bloc. Instead, the country has developed the ability to maintain and advance relations with partners across different regions and geopolitical groupings.

“One of the unique features of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy is its ability to maintain a balance and avoid choosing a single dominant partner. Azerbaijan has successfully developed relations with both the West and the East, as well as with Europe and Asia.”

Mammadova also emphasized the complexity of the South Caucasus, describing it as a region characterized by a particularly complicated geopolitical environment, where unresolved conflicts, security challenges and instability in neighboring areas continue to influence regional dynamics.

Against this backdrop, she noted that Azerbaijan places national security and strategic interests at the center of its foreign policy.

According to the CASPIA analyst, Baku has demonstrated a clear understanding of its geopolitical environment and has pursued a foreign policy designed to preserve strategic autonomy while simultaneously expanding economic, political and security cooperation with a wide range of international partners.

Mammadova further stressed that Azerbaijan–Israel relations should be viewed within this broader framework of Azerbaijan’s diversified foreign policy.
