Expert of the CASPIA Center Nargiz Mammadova appeared on CBC TV, where she discussed the ongoing geopolitical processes in the South Caucasus region with a particular focus on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy strategy and regional leadership.

During the program, Mammadova emphasized that Azerbaijan’s pragmatic and forward-looking foreign policy has allowed the country to anticipate many regional developments long before they unfolded.

According to the expert, this strategic approach was especially visible during the years of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, when the Azerbaijani leadership repeatedly warned about the ineffectiveness of international mediation mechanisms.

“Azerbaijan’s pragmatic policy gives the country an important advantage — the ability to foresee many developments far in advance,” Mammadova stated during the broadcast. “This concerns both the broader geopolitical processes in the South Caucasus and the developments surrounding Azerbaijan-Armenia relations during the conflict period.”

Mammadova recalled that even during the years of negotiations, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev consistently stressed that the OSCE Minsk Group had failed to produce any meaningful results throughout the decades-long conflict.

“President Ilham Aliyev openly stated for years that the OSCE Minsk Group was ineffective and practically useless during the conflict period,” she noted. “Today, many international actors acknowledge that these assessments proved to be correct.”

The CASPIA Center expert also highlighted Azerbaijan’s growing role as a regional leader and a key initiator of strategic regional projects and political initiatives.

“Azerbaijan today is not only a regional leader, but also the main initiator of new regional ideas and formats of cooperation,” Mammadova said.

As an example, she pointed to the recent summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Gabala, which, according to her, became an important platform for discussing the future expansion of cooperation mechanisms through the proposed OTS+ format.

“The Gabala summit demonstrated Azerbaijan’s ability to shape regional agendas and create new platforms for broader cooperation,” she added.

Mammadova further stressed that Azerbaijan’s leadership is also playing a decisive role in the current peace process with Armenia following the end of the conflict.

“In the post-conflict period, Azerbaijan itself became the main initiator of the peace agenda with Armenia,” the expert stated. “This once again demonstrates Baku’s strategic vision and commitment to long-term regional stability.”

The discussion on CBC TV focused on the transformation of the regional geopolitical landscape, Azerbaijan’s increasing diplomatic influence, and the country’s role in shaping future cooperation and peace initiatives in the South Caucasus.
