Nargiz Mammadova, an expert at the CASPIA Center, appeared on SBS TV in the program “Relevant Today.” The main topic of discussion was Azerbaijan’s decision to suspend cooperation with the European Parliament.
During her remarks, Mammadova stated that Azerbaijan has repeatedly faced double standards and what she described as a destructive policy from the European Parliament. According to her, recent scandals involving Luis Moreno Ocampo and Josep Borrell further demonstrate that the European Parliament does not understand the realities of the South Caucasus and is pursuing a non-pragmatic approach.
The expert also emphasized that this position is largely driven by close cooperation between the Armenian lobby and certain European lawmakers, who, in her view, promote an anti-Azerbaijani agenda.
“At present, a crucial process of normalization and peace negotiations is underway, both at a high political level between Azerbaijan and Armenia and at the level of civil society,” Mammadova noted.
She also added that European Union institutions have shown limited resilience to modern challenges, including the net-zero agenda and migration crises. In her view, Europe is also experiencing a lack of political leadership, which affects its foreign policy overall.
