Romania is preparing to launch Neptun Deep, the largest natural gas project in the country’s history, located in the Black Sea.

First gas production is expected in the first half of 2027, with the project scheduled to reach full production capacity by the end of the third quarter.

Neptun Deep is expected to produce around 8 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually, while recoverable reserves are estimated at approximately 100 billion cubic metres.

The project could significantly reshape Romania’s gas market. The country currently produces around 9–11 billion cubic metres of gas per year, meaning that once Neptun Deep reaches full capacity, domestic production could almost double.

The development is also expected to strengthen Romania’s domestic resource base and increase the role of local production in meeting the country’s natural gas demand.
